Discovery According to a study, uncontrolled use of antibiotics increases the risk of colon cancer.  However, the study also found that these pills reduce the risk of anal cancer.  The risk also depends on the type and class of antibiotic, Johns Hopkins scientists said.  The effect of antibiotics varies from intestinal to anal. Researchers also say that the amount of gut bacteria in people's intestines varies.  This research proves again that antibiotics should be used with great care.  Antibiotics have a serious effect on the microbiome that lives in the gut.  It also kills the bacteria needed by the body.  Research on more than 2,000 patients found that 90 percent of bowel cancer patients were given antibiotics in the years leading up to the cancer.  The research, conducted between 2012 and 2013, found a direct link between years of use of antibiotics and bowel cancer.  However, with obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption, the risk of cancer was found to be multiplied if antibiotics were taken for more than 15 days only.  The research also found that such patients were mostly given penicillin.
